Road tripping is not just something you can do in America, it is part of American culture. From the days of the pioneers heading west to modern day, people go on road trips that can last days or months. Simply put, there is no better way to experience the USA than by road trip; and if it’s your first time to the USA, you don’t want to miss these amazing USA road trips:
Often nicknamed as the “Blues Highway,” US Route 61 is one of the longest road trips in USA and one of the most historic. You begin in the Deep South—New Orleans, Louisiana—and can travel 1,400 miles up towards Minnesota. Along the way, you see popular USA attractions like the Mississippi Delta, the city of St. Louis, and so on. Be sure to spend some time in New Orleans, especially if you want to taste creole cooking!
There is plenty of things to do in the USA, but California has a vast majority of great American attractions crammed into its borders. One example is the California State Route I road trip that takes you through the Greater Los Angeles area, Long Beach, Santa Monica, Malibu, Santa Barbara wine country, San Francisco, and the Point Reyes National Seashore. It’s 745 miles of coastline, waves, sun, and phenomenal views.
One of the most famous highways in America, Route 66, is a must-do. This epic USA road trip was created in 1926 and originally stretched 2451 miles from Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California; but nowadays, the stretches of the road that remain open stretch 320 miles from Arizona, taking you through the Petrified Forest, to places like Winslow and Flagstaff, Arizona, up to where the highway ends at the Santa Fe railroad.
In Flagstaff or Winslow, you can also connect to Diamond Creek Road or another interstate to go towards the Grand Canyon. Rent a Jeep, and you can even travel through the canyon.
Crossing with US Route 20 is US Route 30, a road that is freckled with dozens of things to do in the USA, such as visiting Atlantic City, the Lincoln Highway, the Reno National Automobile Museum, Lincoln’s Cabin in Illinois, the massive Coffee Pot and Big Mac Museum in Pennsylvania, and much more. And if you want to go longer, tack on Interstate 10, which connects you to Jacksonville, Florida and Santa Monica, California.
When you’re short on time and coming off your Disney high, the 150-mile stretch of US Route 1 from Miami to Key West, known as the Seven Mile Bridge, is one of the most epic roads you will ever travel. The Ocean Highway frames the Everglades then links to a number of islands between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Though it won’t take you more than a day to cross, the Seven Mile Bridge is a top USA attraction and drive that everyone should experience.
Whether you have a week or a month planned out for the USA, first time travelers should definitely try these USA road trips. You will see so much of the country, and you will make so many amazing memories. So what are you waiting for?
