While some people find Gardens By The Bay a little too artificial for their liking, it's still worth checking out for the ingenuity and uniqueness of its design. The Flower Dome has recently set a Guinness World Record for being the largest glass greenhouse in the world. So there you have it – even non-gardening enthusiasts will find something of interest among the 380,000 plants here.
Wikipedia description
Gardens by the Bay is a nature park spanning 101 hectares of reclaimed land in central Singapore, adjacent to the Marina Reservoir. The park consists of three waterfront gardens: Bay South Garden, Bay East Garden and Bay Central Garden. The largest of the gardens is Bay South Garden at 54 more.. hectares.
Gardens by the Bay is part of a strategy by the Singapore government to transform Singapore from a "Garden City" to a "City in a Garden". The stated aim is to raise the quality of life by enhancing greenery and flora in the city.
First announced by the Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, at the National Day Rally in 2005, Gardens by the Bay was intended to be Singapore's premier urban outdoor recreation space, and a national icon.
In 2006, an international competition for the design of the park was held, attracting more than 70 entries submitted by 170 firms from 24 countries. Two British firms – Grant Associates and Dominic White – were awarded the contracts for the Bay South and Bay East Gardens respectively.
Alongside the lead designers Grant Associates, the design team for Bay South included WilkinsonEyre, Atelier Ten and Atelier One. They were supported by a number of Singapore firms including CPG Consultants, Meinhardt Infrastructure, Langdon & Seah and PMLink.
The park is quite popular, with 6.4 million visitors in 2014, and it had its 20 millionth visitor in November 2015. less..

Another Singapore icon that's worth taking a look at is the Marina Bay Sands complex, or 'that boat building', as it's often referred to. If you're not a hotel guest, unfortunately you can't access the iconic infinity swimming pool, but you can do the next best thing: catch the elevator to Ku De Ta (level 57), grab a cocktail and a spot on the balcony, and explore the city sights from the sky. Closer to ground level, you'll find restaurants and plenty of shops to keep you amused, as well as the casino if a flutter takes your fancy.

The Botanic Gardens are a lovely, peaceful way to start your morning, or to retreat to if you need a break from the big tourist spots without venturing too far out of the city. Take 30 minutes for a short wander, or a couple of hours to check out the National Orchid Garden, have a coffee in one of the cafes/restaurants, or just lie down and enjoy the peace and quiet!
Wikipedia description
The Singapore Botanic Gardens is a 158-year-old tropical garden located at the fringe of Singapore's Orchard Road shopping district. It is one of three gardens, and the only tropical garden, to be honoured as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Botanic Gardens has been ranked Asia's top park more.. attraction since 2013, by TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Awards. It was declared the inaugural Garden of the Year, International Garden Tourism Awards in 2012, and received Michelin's three-star rating in 2008.
The Botanic Gardens was founded at its present site in 1859 by an agri-horticultural society. It played a pivotal role in the region's rubber trade boom in the early twentieth century, when its first scientific director Henry Nicholas Ridley, headed research into the plant's cultivation. By perfecting the technique of rubber extraction, still in use today, and promoting its economic value to planters in the region, rubber output expanded rapidly. At its height in the 1920s, the Malayan peninsula cornered half of the global latex production.
The National Orchid Garden, within the main gardens, is at the forefront of orchid studies and a pioneer in the cultivation of hybrids, complementing the nation's status as a major exporter of cut orchids. Aided by the equatorial climate, it houses the largest orchid collection of 1,200 species and 2,000 hybrids.
Early in the nation's independence, Singapore Botanic Gardens' expertise helped to transform the island into a tropical Garden City, an image and moniker for which the nation is widely known. In 1981, the hybrid climbing orchid, Vanda Miss Joaquim, was chosen as the nation's national flower. Singapore's "orchid diplomacy" honours visiting head of states, dignitaries and celebrities, by naming its finest hybrids after them; these are displayed at its popular VIP Orchid Gardens.
Singapore's botanic gardens is the only one in the world that opens from 5 a.m. to 12 midnight every day of the year. More than 10,000 species of flora is spread over its 82-hectares area, which is stretched vertically; the longest distance between the northern and southern ends is 2.5 km. The Botanic Gardens receives about 4.5 million visitors annually. less..

If you've had your fill of sightseeing, shopping, and walking, you may just feel like hitting the beach. The beach is certainly not amazing when compared to the best beaches in the world, but it's still a welcome respite if you just want to relax in the sun. If you're looking for something with more action, try riding the waves at Wave House, navigating the hillside track at Skyline Luge, or experience the thrill of simulated skydiving at iFly. Check out Resorts World Sentosa if you're into theme park-style action – here you'll find Universal Studios, SEA Aquarium, Adventure Cove Waterpark, and more.

The severity of the haze varies from year to year, but is at its worst during September. In 2016, the haze only lasted a few days, but in 2015 the hazy conditions persisted through most of November. During years with moderate haze, the Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) will read around 100-200, which is already an unhealthy range. In years where the haze is worse, the PSI is typically 200+ and even occasionally exceeds 300. When the pollution levels are that high, the Singapore government recommends that even healthy adults stay indoors as much as possible, so definitely not an ideal time for sightseeing.
Money and cost

Alcohol is limited based on what you’re buying; for example, you can buy one liter each of spirits, wine and beer, or two litres of wine and one liter of beer, but you can never exceed one liter of spirits. There is zero duty-free allowance on cigarettes and tobacco products and, if caught bringing cigarettes from other countries, you potentially face very stiff fines.
Safety and security
Singapore is very strict about drug possession and being caught with even small amounts will land you in hot water with the authorities. Larger amounts will lead to charges of trafficking. The punishment for these offenses are steep fines and jail time, if you’re lucky. Make sure to double check your suitcases and bags before travelling there o be 100% sure there aren’t any remnants of any questionable substances lurking in the bottom of your luggage.
